Thanks. I thought you'd want to avoid being overheard, and when I started trying to find soundproofed locations...

[It had been the obvious place. Besides, what's suspicious about two teenagers and a guitar? Even if one of them has an outfit on, it could still be band practice.]

A vault might have been interested as well..we would have needed to break in...or break out.

So now that we have a bit more free time, I believe it's time to discuss our connecting threads. Admittedly, the only other wild card that I know tried to kill me so forgive me taking precautions.

[Souji's eyes widen at that, and he stays that way for a long moment, staring. It's rare for something to take him that off-guard, but...]

If that's the case, I understand. Something similar happened to me.

[So maybe he was purposefully pitted against someone else as well? His stance rested a little, the hand close to his dagger relenting. He knew that Souji was probably someone to be trusted but it was hard to shake off precautions, especially since he was the only Phantom Thief of his team in this world.]

... Izanami-no-Mikoto granted the ability to summon Izanagi to three outsiders who she thought represented Hope, Despair, and Emptiness, to see what was strongest inside humans. It's a little embarrassing, but it seems I was chosen to represent Hope.

[He makes a self-deprecating expression. He knows how it sounds.]

Since she didn't tell us what she was doing, or about each other, we all used our powers differently.

[How to put it?]

The short version is, I'm the one who didn't kidnap or murder anyone.

[He begins to frown as Yu speaks, idly tapping his hand on the seat before he draws a sighed breath.]

Yaldabaoth, the god of control, gave the power to myself and [a brief pause since he doesn't really want to reveal Akechi's name just yet]...someone else to see if humanity could be free from his influence. If I won, the world would be kept as is, if he did, the world would be reset, and under the god's total control. He then rigged the game in his favor, kidnapping Igor, separating my attendant Lavenza into two halves, Caroline and Justine, and then pretended to be him for most of my journey. It trained me so that the masses would reject us, and throw us into despair.

It almost worked.

... Gods really seem like more trouble than they're worth. If I didn't know better, I'd be tempted to become an atheist...

[Souji sighs, looks down, and when he looks back up just the smallest smile is playing across his lips.]

It's good to know there's someone else willing to dare the odds and defy them. Thank you very much.

[He gives a small, formal bow. It might almost come off as mocking if it wasn't so obviously serious.]

Is Igor all right? ... You didn't happen to meet Elizabeth or Margaret, did you?

[He just laughs at the first comment. Ren is okay with gods if they actually behave and do good. Although...what are you even doing, Souji?]

I should be thanking you as well.

[He does his own small bow. It's uh...suitable.]

Igor is fine now. I don't think I've met with either Elizabeth or Margaret. Just Lavenza and her split personality before that. Were they your attendants?

Margaret was my attendant. Elizabeth was her sister; but we haven't met. And I hadn't heard about Lavenza at all... I wonder how many of them there are?

If we're being technical, Morgana wasn't made to be an attendant, but he is a resident of the Velvet Room. Igor created him to guide me when he was kidnapped.

Unfortunately he had lost his memory at the time, so he didn't know until Igor was freed.

What was Margaret like?

She was... very collected. Responsible. And always interested in what I was doing.

Morgana?

[chainlinks]

Ahhh. Lavernza was nicer when she became whole again.

[His voice says a lot about how HE ended up being treated. They cared for him in their own way of course, but Ren didn't get the easy Velvet attendants, that's for sure.]

Well...right now he's a cat when he's in our world. When he was in the Metaverse he looked like [hmmmm] Puss-in-Boots if he was a black cat that dressed a bit like Zorro.

[Yes. Perfect.]

[His eyes are shining. He looks like a shoujo character.]

... I'm jealous.

Let's pretend I wrote Mona instead of Morgana the entire time because ~identities~

He used to be angry when anyone called him that...

His fur is very soft. I think he'd like you.

Oh. If it upset him, I'd be sure not to.

[But that calms him down a little.]

Sometimes I can't help myself. It's a payback for him telling me to go to sleep sometimes.

[With that out of the way, they can go back to talking a little more seriously.]

So how did you go into the Metaverse? An application appeared on our phones, but it disappeared once we stole the hearts of the people.

[Figuratively. Metaphorically. You can take your pick.]

Oh. I didn't have a smartphone.

We jumped into television screens.

[The deadest of deadpans.]

[Souji this was a serious conversation...then again he didn't seem to be lying or joking about it.]

How did you get out? I didn't see many televisions in the metaverse....

A giant teddy bear conjured a stack of televisions we could use as an exit.

[He's so serious it may seem like he's trolling. Or it may be absolutely clear he's serious. If you can't tell the difference between those two states... neither can he.]

[Maybe it's a protag thing, really. Because Ren is going to take it seriously.]

Was the Teddy Bear sent by Igor?

Teddy was... on his own journey for the Truth.

[He's not sure he wants to say more until they know each other better. Teddy was complicated.]

[He won't dig too deep, at least not yet. There's lots of other things they can talk about.]

Without giving me the names of the people in your team, how many of you were there?

Besides me... seven others. Including Teddy.

[That's two members short of them, if he includes Crow. He supposes he shouldn't but...well it's complicated.]

We're a member more, with Mona, of course.

[He'll leave it at that for now.]
