Souji didn't hug Rise because once he started their S.Link, he pretty much hung out with her constantly - meaning that cut-scene takes place, like, a week or ten days after their S Link started

he'd already gotten to Ai's, uh, initial confession

and so "girls being quick to ask him out" made him wary, not receptive

that is the ONLY reason he has no romance routes

(all the ones that came later, came soon before or after Nanako's kidnapping, when ain't nobody got time for that shit)

Izanagi-No-Okami, Level 94 World Arcana
Souji always kept an unfused version of Izanagi with him, even when it wasn't particularly useful, because the voice of his first Persona is a useful touchstone to him. The powerful elemental attacks and immunities are beside the point.

Atropos, Level 70, Fortune Arcana
Mind Charge, Wind Amp, & Magarudyne make for a useful combo, hitting all targets for heavy wind - at the end, Souji's party rarely had Yosuke, as Yosuke was leading the 'backup' party.

Thor, Level 70, Chariot Arcana
Immunity to Physical Attacks & Severe Lightning damage made Thor a must-have.

Yoshitsune, Level 87, Tower Arcana
Hassou-Tobi, Brave Blade, Heat Riser, Power Charge, & a suite of immunities acquired through fusion make Yoshitsune the go-to tank.

Ailment Boost, Old One, and Elec Break are all solid reasons for this Persona, but it's also true that Souji acquired it just when his relationship with Sayoko was at its most intense and confusing, and Lilith helped him understand.

Masukunda. This Persona was mostly a placeholder until Souji could fuse something better with Masukunda, but winding up in Syn made it a permanent commitment.

Souji is convinced Neko Shogun is the best Persona to have equipped when he's attempting to better understand cats. He doesn't use it in battle anymore, but like Izanagi, since gaining it, has never left it out of his line-up.
