Ahhh. Lavernza was nicer when she became whole again.

[His voice says a lot about how HE ended up being treated. They cared for him in their own way of course, but Ren didn't get the easy Velvet attendants, that's for sure.]

Well...right now he's a cat when he's in our world. When he was in the Metaverse he looked like [hmmmm] Puss-in-Boots if he was a black cat that dressed a bit like Zorro.

He used to be angry when anyone called him that...

His fur is very soft. I think he'd like you.

Oh. If it upset him, I'd be sure not to.

[But that calms him down a little.]

Sometimes I can't help myself. It's a payback for him telling me to go to sleep sometimes.

[With that out of the way, they can go back to talking a little more seriously.]

So how did you go into the Metaverse? An application appeared on our phones, but it disappeared once we stole the hearts of the people.

[Figuratively. Metaphorically. You can take your pick.]

Oh. I didn't have a smartphone.

We jumped into television screens.

[The deadest of deadpans.]

[Souji this was a serious conversation...then again he didn't seem to be lying or joking about it.]

How did you get out? I didn't see many televisions in the metaverse....

A giant teddy bear conjured a stack of televisions we could use as an exit.

[He's so serious it may seem like he's trolling. Or it may be absolutely clear he's serious. If you can't tell the difference between those two states... neither can he.]

[Maybe it's a protag thing, really. Because Ren is going to take it seriously.]

Was the Teddy Bear sent by Igor?

Teddy was... on his own journey for the Truth.

[He's not sure he wants to say more until they know each other better. Teddy was complicated.]

I see...

[He won't dig too deep, at least not yet. There's lots of other things they can talk about.]

Without giving me the names of the people in your team, how many of you were there?

Besides me... seven others. Including Teddy.

[That's two members short of them, if he includes Crow. He supposes he shouldn't but...well it's complicated.]

We're a member more, with Mona, of course.

[He'll leave it at that for now.]

It's a little interesting that our teams are so close in size.

[He pauses a moment, thinking about that.]

... It's a pretty good number if we wanted to put together a soccer game, too.

What about a baseball game? We could have less people on the field.

[Not only is it the most popular sport in Japan and Ren is a fan, but he's surprisingly good at batting from practising in the batting cages.]

Baseball's good too. Or basketball.

I have a feeling that would probably end up in a bloodbath, somehow.

[Maybe they can set up the Persona Olympics. He tilts his head briefly, sinking more into the seat now that he felt a little more relaxed.]

What about you, Souji? Do you have any questions?

How did you come up with the idea of wearing masks to keep your identity secret? We did our best to hide our weapons and be discreet, but we never thought of something like that.

[It's as gentle a way as he can find to say that their groups seem to be different in some essential ways, and he's not sure how or why that started.]

[That answered a question he had of his own at the same time.]

We didn't pick our masks or our costumes. They were a physical representation of our rebellion.

[Case closed! ...wait.]

Our weapons are fakes from a hobby shop. In the metaverse they became real because it tricked the shadows thinking they were real weapons. It made more sense when Mona explained it.

As for why I can do this here now, I'm...still not sure why I can change and transform here. Perhaps I'm a threat to this place. Perhaps we're in the Metaverse without known.

It makes as much sense as the televisions... in that world, there's not as much difference between the way things are seen and the way they are.

[He produces his deck of Tarot cards and holds them out for examination.]

We didn't transform. We just used these... so 'the mask used to face hardship' wasn't a literal mask, for us.

Maybe different places have different metaverses...Tokyo was a spiralling underground because of the stations...

[So much for relaxing as scoots closer to take a look at them. He had seen a few when Kanji and Souji had summoned but this was a complete set.]

Heh. [He's right, they were pretty literally.] I do have one card. Igor gave it to me the last time I saw him and Lavernza.

[He extends his right hand and a bluish light shines into a ball before reforming into a blue floating card.]

[His eyes go wide and he studies the card for a long moment.]

I think... that's the same card that I used to summon Izanagi-no-Okami in his ultimate form.

It's designed a little differently, but it has the same number.

Maybe a reflection of how we are?

[Like let's be honest here, Souji's cards are beautiful but the card Ren is holding is way too extra for nothing.]

These cards remind me of the other ones too. Well, not quite the same. My cards felt like they were being a little more malicious. Maybe it's due to the fake Igor.

Maybe.

I don't even want to think about how wrong a fake Igor could have twisted things.

Hmmm....

[He has to wonder if the 'gif' that That Igor gave him is something Souji can do...]
